Aston Villa attempt to 'hijack' transfer fails – Player gives verbal commitment to another club

Aston Villa have failed in their attempt to sign youngster Tidiam Gomis, who will instead be joining RB Leipzig on a free transfer this summer.
That's according to journalist Philipp Hinze, who reports that the 18-year-old has given a 'verbal commitment' to Leipzig.
He reports that Aston Villa, alongside AC Milan, had attempted to 'hijack' Leipzig's move for Gomis this month.
The youngster is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement for the summer as his current deal at SM Caen is set to expire later this year.
Aston Villa were one of the club who had lined up to try and secure his signature this month, with a report on the 15th even stating that they'd made a second offer for him. They were willing to pay this month to beat the competition to him ahead of the summer.
It seems their efforts have failed, though, as Hinze reports Gomis has now given his verbal commitment to Leipzig.
Hijack attempts from Aston Villa and AC Milan have not worked out. That's because Gomis wants to move to Leipzig instead of those clubs.
He will sign a long-term contract with the German side and join them on a free transfer, leaving Aston Villa and Milan disappointed in the process.
