Aston Villa transfer hinges on Barcelona decision – Plan to pay his €20m clause

Aston Villa's move for Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza is now in Barcelona's hands, as they have to decide whether to use a clause to purchase him themselves.
That's according to Mundo Deportivo, who say contacts between various parties are ongoing to work out the next steps.
The newspaper reports that Aston Villa have communicated their intention to pay Mingueza's €20m release clause this month and take him to Villa Park.
Barcelona must now decide if they want to do the same and sign the player themselves or back away and instead take €10m from the deal.
Aston Villa are willing to buy Mingueza this month and pay his €20m release clause. The operation is underway and there have been contacts, including with Barcelona, over the last few days.
The Catalans have an option on their former player that will allow them to match any offer for the defender. They are also due 50% of any sale. So, if they decide not match Aston Villa's bid, he will be heading to the Premier League.
They need to formally answer 'what their intentions are', though, before anything can proceed. Barcelona had considered re-signing the defender earlier this year for €10m but couldn't afford it at the time.
Now they find themselves with a decision to make as Aston Villa have 'taken a position' to pay the €20m release clause and take him to the Premier League this month.
