Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for the first North London derby of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

With both teams coming on the back of underwhelming results in their previous league encounters, the game promises to be an intriguing contest.

Yesterday, Aaron Lennon predicted Tottenham to beat Arsenal in what could be one of the most important victories of Ange Postecoglou’s reign at the club.

And now, Alan Shearer has shared his predictions for the game as the two great rivals prepare to do battle on Sunday.

Declan Rice’s suspension and Martin Odegaard’s injury have left Arsenal a bit short in midfield.

Shearer feels Tottenham could use this to their advantage to secure at least a point. Although he didn’t mention the exact score, he expects the two sides to share the spoils in a game that could have plenty of goals.

“If of course, Martin Odegaard is ruled that's bad news for Arsenal but very good for Tottenham,” Shearer wrote in his column for Metro.

“Odegaard and Rice are two of Arsenal's big hitters, so to go into a game of this size without them, it would be tough for Arsenal.

“These games are always really tight, and with the potential injury news for Arsenal, there may not be a lot between the two teams, so I'm tempted to go for a score draw in this one.”

Paul Merson also believes Arsenal and Tottenham will play out a draw in North London, a result neither of them will be particularly thrilled about.

How have Arsenal and Tottenham fared so far this season?

Arsenal have secured two wins and a draw in their first three Premier League games as they dropped two valuable points against Brighton & Hove Albion after wins against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa.

The result aside, Rice’s red card added to their misery, with the midfielder set to miss one of their most important games of the season owing to a suspension.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have endured a mixed bag of results this season.

They were held to a 1-1 draw against Leicester City on opening day but blew Everton away 4-0 the following weekend.

Before the international break, however, they showed how inconsistent they can be as Newcastle United came from behind to secure a 2-1 win at St James’ Park.

Neither Arsenal nor Tottenham have been anywhere close to their brilliant best this season but the game promises to be a good contest, as is often the case with local derbies.
