Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard was in international action on Thursday and gave a great account of himself on the night.

The Arsenal ace started for Belgium in their Nations League fixture against Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Trossard’s nation got off to the worst possible start against the Azzurri, with Andrea Cambiaso opened the scoring within the first minute.

Belgium then found themselves 2-0 down on 24 minutes as Mateo Retegui knocked in a loose ball after Koen Casteels kept Cambiaso’s effort out.

However, the Azzurri then went a man down in the 40th minute as Lorenzo Pellegrini was sent off for a studs-up tackle on Belgium defender Arthur Theate.

The Red Devils quickly began their fightback as Maxim De Cuyper halved the deficit before the break with a curling shot from the edge of the box.

Trossard assisted De Cuyper and then went on to get the equaliser in the 61st minute by poking home from close range following a header by Wout Faes.

Belgian media satisfied with Leandro Trossard but criticism still sent the Arsenal man’s way

Voetbal Primeur gave the Arsenal man a 6.5 out of 10 for his efforts on the night.

‘Trossard was labelled as the man who had to do it in the run-up to the match against the Italians,’ they began.

‘The Arsenal player showed too little for a long time, but through some provocative behaviour he showed a certain grit, which the Red Devils need.

‘He also scored the 2-2, which allowed him to secure a point for Belgium.’

Meanwhile, GVA gave Trossard a 6 out of 10 and wrote: ‘Played far from his best game as a Red Devil.

‘He did grow in the second half and reacted quickly and intelligently for the equaliser.’

Likewise, RTBF gave the Arsenal man a 6 out of 10, and also provided a comprehensive write-up on his efforts.

‘Absent from the last international squad, the one who played, once again, quite big, did not really shine before the break,’ they wrote. ‘His very well-balanced assist saved him a little.

‘Returning from the locker room, repeat. But this time, it was not thanks to an assist that he was decisive but rather thanks to his 10th goal in the national jersey, achieved after an action worthy of a true fox in the box.

‘Much more visible in the second half, he was not always precise.’

Trossard got the better of Arsenal teammate Riccardo Calafiori, and this was picked up on by the Italian press.
