Chelsea star Reece James got a strong response on social media after the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, where he rescued a point with a stoppage-time equaliser.

Cole Palmer’s opener had been cancelled out by goals from Antoine Semenyo and Justin Kluivert, and the Blues were heading towards a third loss in five league games. However, the club captain made his mark and scored late to salvage a draw with a free kick.

James, who had made a long-awaited return from a recurring injury in Chelsea’s 5-0 win against Morecambe on 11 January, delighted supporters with his performance.

Following the draw to the Cherries, he shared a post on Instagram. He posted three photos with no caption, but the location set as 'Home.'

Teammates Ben Chilwell and Christopher Nkunku shared appreciation with Chilwell commenting “There he is” and Nkunku posting emojis. Former Chelsea captain Thiago Silva also commented with “I love you captain”.

Other names from the recent past at Stamford Bridge to react to James’ dramatic intervention were Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso, AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori and Olympiacos man Willian.

Chelsea is still home to Reece James amid speculation

The 25 year-old has faced a challenging season, making just four Premier League appearances before the Bournemouth draw.

With young talent like Josh Acheampong rising through the ranks and limited playing time for James, rumours about his future at Chelsea have strengthened.

However, it appears James has made his position clear, with Chelsea remaining close to his heart, though he will need to battle for his spot in the team.

Maresca’s recent comments about James where he suggested he doesn’t prefer full-backs who “go up and down” the pitch, have been criticised by fans. Despite this, supporters continue to back their captain, and James seems to reciprocate that connection.

This mutual respect was also evident in the post he made with players, both past and present commenting, but also when Marc Cucurella shared a heartfelt message on social media.

James’ future at West London now depends on whether he continues playing in his attacking role or if a move might be necessary to adapt to a different playing style under Maresca.

In other news, a Premier League club are plotting a move to sign Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the January transfer window.
