Ben Doak is set to turn down a return to Celtic in favour of a Premier League move if he leaves Liverpool this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The winger is currently on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, where he has impressed this season with two goals and six assists in 21 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

That has attracted attention from elsewhere, and Football Insider understands Liverpool would reluctantly sell Doak this month for £25million, after rejecting £15million bids from Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town.

As per this latest update, two more English top-flight clubs – Fulham and Brentford – are also monitoring the situation, while Celtic are said to be admirers of the 19-year-old.

The Liverpool man though is said to prefer a Premier League move if he does move this month, seemingly ruling out a return to Parkhead.

Doak made his senior debut for Celtic before leaving for Liverpool as a 16-year-old for a compensation fee of £600,000 (talkSPORT) in March 2022.

Ben Doak stance over Liverpool exit will be frustrating for Celtic

Football Insider Opinion

Doak is already a hugely promising young player who is being tipped by many to enjoy a big future in the game.

As a result it is going to be disappointing for Celtic that it looks as though they are going to miss out on bringing him back to the club.

Not only could he have been a useful asset on the pitch, but the rate of his development at his age also means he could have generated a big profit in the future as well.

That though is something that the Scottish champions now look set to miss out on with Doak apparently keen to stay in England.

A return to Celtic looks unlikely for Ben Doak

Given they could have offered a chance not only to return home, but also to win silverware and compete in European football, that will no doubt disappoint those at Celtic.

With that in mind there will still be plenty of eyes on just what else Brendan Rodgers’ side are able to do while the market remains open.

In other news, Celtic have responded to transfer enquiries from abroad for one of their players.
