Ben Foster explains why Liverpool fans are lying to themselves about Conor Bradley

Trent Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool contract is up next summer, and the Reds are at risk of losing their star full-back.
Indeed, Alexander-Arnold has been linked to Real Madrid recently, and a move to the Spanish capital could be on the cards.
Liverpool are in the market for Alexander-Arnold replacements.
Indeed, Jeremie Frimpong has been linked to Liverpool recently, but perhaps the natural Alexander-Arnold successor is a player who is already in the squad – Conor Bradley.
Bradley has huge potential, and he could become a star at Liverpool, but according to Ben Foster, a number of Liverpool fans are lying to themselves about Bradley's potential if they believe he's good enough to replace Alexander-Arnold.
Liverpool fans are lying about Conor Bradley
Foster spoke about Alexander-Arnold's potential departure and Bradley.
The pundit says that he's heard some Liverpool fans saying that Bradley is waiting in the wings to take over from Alexander-Arnold.
Foster believes that those fans are somewhat deluded, claiming that no matter how good Bradley is, he won't be as good as their current right-back.
"They spoke about it after the game, Trent Alexander-Arnold, the reason they don't think he's the most important is because they think they have Conor Bradley waiting in the wings to go. If Liverpool fans think they have another world-best right-back ready to go then they are kidding themselves, no matter how good he is, you will never be as good as Trent Alexander-Arnold is," Foster said.
Conor Bradley compared to Alexander-Arnold
As exciting a prospect as Conor Bradley is, it has to be said that Foster is right.
Indeed, while Bradley can become a top-class right-back in his own right, Alexander-Arnold is another level entirely.
Just comparing the two players' stats at the age of 21 shows the gulf in class here.
Trent Alexander-Arnold aged 21 | Conor Bradley aged 21 | |
Games | 97 | 18 |
Goals | 6 | 1 |
Assists | 27 | 3 |
Alexander-Arnold is just on another level to Bradley, and there's no shame in that.
Bradley's performance against Real Madrid earlier this year showed that he can be a fantastic player, but Alexander-Arnold is genuinely a once-in-a-generation talent.
Whether or not Bradley is up to the task of replacing Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool remains to be seen, but if the England international does end up swapping Anfield for Real Madrid this summer, it may be Bradley who has to step up and fill that gap.
