Monchi has had a reasonably successful time at Aston Villa so far, thankfully going better than his time at AS Roma.

The Spaniard has played a key role in elevating the standards at the Birmingham club, who are in the Champions League this season and very much in the race for European qualification for the next campaign.

Even though Monchi had a much-maligned stint at Roma, Antonio Cassano has lauded him for his work at Aston Villa.

In a chat with Viva el Futbol, he tipped Juventus to land the 56-year-old.

He said, as relayed by AreaNapoli: “For many years they won because they spent as much as they wanted [Juventus].

"Now they can’t spend as much as they want, so they have to go and get Monchi from Aston Villa because he’s the best manager in the world."

Cassano had more to say about Monchi, stating that he had a bad time at Roma because of those who were around him at the club.

He said: "Let’s remember that the clowns and failures in Italy made him look incompetent. Monchi is the best manager."

Whether the ex-Sevilla sporting director is the best around is up for debate but the work he’s doing at Aston Villa is being noticed.

His exit from Sevilla was followed by major financial issues at the Spanish side and similar had happened at Roma, who replaced their key players with talents that could never quite make a mark.

Leaving Aston Villa to go to Juventus seems unlikely – for now.
