Amadou Onana sent a message to Aston Villa fans following an emotional return from injury against Club Brugge on Wednesday.
Onana had not made an appearance for Villa since the 2-0 win over Wolves at the beginning of February, playing the final 45 minutes at Molineux Stadium before sustaining an injury.
While the Belgian was not able to make it onto the pitch, he was part of Unai Emery’s matchday squad as the Villans defeated Club Brugge 3-0 to advance to the Champions League quarter-finals on 12 March.
The midfield duo of Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans continued to control the middle of the park, with the game made much easier by Kyriani Sabbe’s red-card challenge on Marcus Rashford.
Goals from Marco Asensio and Ian Maatsen helped put the European tie to bed, with Villa eventually running out 6-1 victors on aggregate and setting up a clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Taking to Instagram [12 March], Onana wrote: “Champions League quarter-finals, here we go. Missed my Villa Park so much,” with three heart emojis.
Having gained traction from teammates Tielemans and Ezri Konsa, Everton’s Beto, Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina and Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard all liked the post following his return from injury.
Unai Emery to bring Champions League success to Villa Park
Football Insider verdict
While facing PSG in the next round is a rather daunting prospect, Emery has already proven that his side can take on the very best this season, and there is no better way to prove that than beating the team that knocked out Liverpool.
Getting further and further into the Champions League will not only be hugely financially rewarding for the club, but it could also help the transfer strategy once the summer transfer window rolls around.

Supporters are already begging for Villa to make Asensio and Rashford’s loan moves permanent, having quickly fallen in love with the pair at Villa Park, and the promise of Champions League football could help that.
Emery has the potential to build something quite special at Villa Park, and this season’s Champions League journey could just be the start of that.
