'Bournemouth to appoint Edin Terzic as Tottenham hone in on Andoni Iraola'

Bournemouth will surely look to appoint former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic as Tottenham look towards Andoni Iraola.
Ange Postecoglou seems destined to be let go by Tottenham come the end of the season, following a desperately disappointing second season in charge.
Should Spurs let the Australian boss go, Andoni Iraola is the top option to replace the former Celtic boss in North London, Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider exclusively.
If the Spaniard were to leave Bournemouth, he would prove to be very tricky to replace. However, a Champions League runner-up could prove to be the perfect candidate.
Edin Terzic perfect fit for Bournemouth approach
As reported by The Telegraph, if Iraola were to leave, Bournemouth would want to recruit a similar manager who is focused on developing players and the team, rather than a manager in the classic mould who looks to control everything from recruitment to communication.
The German very much fits the mould of being a more modern manager in his approach.
Having worked as interim boss at Dortmund, winning the DFB-Pokal in the 2020/21 season, Terzic moved to the newly created role of technical director, rather than reverting back to his previous job of assistant manager.
Following the exit of Marco Rose, the former striker took the role of manager at the Signal Iduna Park, missing out on the Bundesliga title by goal difference in his first season and losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid in 2024.
Terzic is familiar with the more modern structure of having a coach who’s remit is simply to focus on team performance, whilst directors and analysts take charge of recruitment, having worked in both roles.
His teams also play a similarly direct style to the one that currently exists at Bournemouth right now, making for a seamless transition into the role at the Vitality Stadium.
To add to his case, Terzic also has experience of the demands and rigours of the Premier League, having worked under Slaven Bilic at West Ham from 2015 to 2017 and studied for his UEFA Pro Licence alongside Graham Potter under England’s Football Association.
Edin Terzic in demand after Borussia Dortmund exit
Everything seems to work in Terzic’s favour for the Bournemouth role, so what’s the catch?
Well, when you take a team struggling in the Bundesliga to the final of the Champions League, then leave straight after, job opportunities are not hard to come by.
The issue lies with Bournemouth convincing the 42-year-old to end his sabbatical and join the club.
Terzic was considered for both the West Ham and Man United roles, prior to Potter and Ruben Amorim’s appointments respectively, and has been a target for Tottenham and Roma in the past year.
Part of being a modern manager, is looking for a project, more than a job and the former Dortmund manager would likely be keen on a clear, outlined path towards success.
Edin Terzic coaching career | Role | From | To |
Borussia Dortmund | Scout/youth coach | 2010 | 2013 |
Besiktas | Assistant coach | 2013 | 2015 |
West Ham | Assistant coach | 2015 | 2017 |
Borussia Dortmund | Assistant coach | 2018 | 2020 |
Borussia Dortmund | Interim manager | 2020 | 2021 |
Borussia Dortmund | Technical director | 2021 | 2022 |
Borussia Dortmund | Manager | 2022 | 2024 |
If there is any club that can convince Terzic they can offer that, the Cherries stand a good chance.
Whilst Dean Huijsen is set to leave, Bournemouth have made it clear this summer will not see a clear-out of their star players, leaving the former Dortmund boss with plenty of talented options.
What’s more, with Bournemouth keen to improve their training facilities and stadium, the club has a clear strategy for long-term improvement and growth under Bill Foley, once again making them an appealing option.
Combine that with the club in a good position to qualify for Europe this year and you have the foundational blocks for a sustained period of success on the South Coast.
The hope will be to keep Iraola this season, but should the Spaniard make the move to Spurs, Terzic would be a fantastic choice to replace him.
