Brentford could be an option for Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen next season, according to Thursday’s edition of Sport.

The Premier League club wanted to sign the centre-back last summer and are still keen on him.

Last year’s disappointment hasn’t put off Brentford as Sport now claim they have a ‘firm interest’ in the 28-year-old.

He came off the bench in his side’s 2-1 win over Valencia in August and that has been his only appearance of this season. Since then, he’s been sidelined with injuries.

The Denmark international’s contract expires in 2026, and Barca’s priority is to sell him in the summer window. To achieve an acceptable fee, he needs to make a few appearances this season. If not, the Catalan club can consider offering him a one-year extension.

Christensen’s desire is to fulfil his contract, while he also wants to understand Barcelona’s stance. They are clear that he can’t leave as a free agent in 2026.

If he were to sign a one-year extension, the defender could go out on loan in the summer. The newspaper claims there are ‘ideas on the table and a firm interest’ from the Bees.

Sport add Brentford are still interested and are waiting to make a mutual decision with Barcelona. The report further adds the Premier League club would be willing to analyse ‘different options to make the deal viable’ for Christensen.

At this point in time, both Barcelona and the Dane are relaxed about his situation. There may be developments in the coming weeks.
