Brighton & Hove Albion are in the mix to sign Vitória de Guimarães’ Alberto Oliveira Baio, also known as Alberto Costa.
The 21-year-old is a product of Vitória de Guimarães’ youth system and made his way to the first team last season. He started this season as a substitute before cementing his place in the last two months.
Brighton, Sporting, Benfica and AS Roma are keen on signing the right-back, according to Wednesday’s edition of Correio da Manhã.
Sporting and Benfica were battling it out for his signature yesterday but weren’t able to secure an agreement. The two Portuguese clubs face competition from the Seagulls and the Serie A side to sign the defender.
The report claims Vitória de Guimarães valued him at €8m before the start of the winter market. Roma met their valuation, while Benfica offered €6m plus €2m bonuses.
It’s claimed Brighton have proposed €10m and are willing to leave him where he is until the summer.
Sporting’s offer is around €9m plus €2m bonuses and they’re confident he would pick them over other clubs because the player can reunite with his former manager, Rui Borges.
Due to the ongoing battle, Vitória de Guimarães value Alberto at €12m. Correio da Manhã claim the fixed fee, bonuses and payment methods will determine where Alberto will end up.
There should be developments in the next few hours or days.
