Brighton and Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler believes Thomas Tuchel's ability to "achieve success in a short time" could prove to be vital for England.

The Brighton boss has been speaking to Sky Germany, with his comments relayed by their journalist Florian Plettenberg on X.

Tuchel was announced as the new England manager yesterday in a surprise move by the FA, who have been on the hunt for Gareth Southgate's replacement since the summer.

Reports had linked the likes of Pep Guardiola with the position but instead it was Tuchel that England went for, with him signing a contract earlier this month ahead of the deal being announced.

The appointment of a German coach as England manager has naturally raised eyebrows, and indeed more than that, with newspapers and high-profile pundits already coming out to criticise the decision.

Many had wanted an English manager to build on the work done by Southgate, but an apparent lack of high-profile candidates has instead led the FA to choose Tuchel, who had been free since leaving Bayern Munich.

His trophy record after spells with Chelsea, Bayern and PSG in particular talks for itself and the Brighton manager believes his ability to achieve success quickly, as he did at Stamford Bridge, could be the crucial factor.

“Thomas Tuchel as England coach is a very exciting choice," he said.

"He has already proven at the highest level that he is tactically flexible and can quickly improve players. His ability to organize teams and achieve success in a short time can be a real asset for the English national team.

"It will be interesting to see how he applies his philosophy to the national team. I have great respect for him as a coach and I'm eager to see how he tackles this challenge. I wish him and his team all the best.”
