Brighton reject first offer for player – Poker continues, end of saga not in sight

VfB Stuttgart are planning a new bid for Brighton and Hove Albion striker Deniz Undav after the Seagulls rejected their first offer.
That's according to BILD, who report that the German side's first serious bid to try and resolve the developing saga has failed.
The newspaper reports that the ongoing poker game between Brighton and Stuttgart for the striker, who spent last season with the German side, has just taken another turn.
According to their information, Brighton have just refused a first bid from Stuttgart for the striker, which was valued at €23m plus bonuses.
That figure was not something Brighton were satisfied with, with reports having indicated that they want around €30m for the German striker.
Thus, the two sides are relatively far apart and need to work, perhaps to meet in the middle and get a deal done.
It's the latest twist in the ongoing saga around the striker that has already seen Stuttgart activate a purchase clause worth €20m but for that to be immediately counteracted by Brighton, who activated their own buyback option in the deal between the two sides.
That was believed to be just over €20m, so there is no surprise that they are now looking for more from the Swabians to sanction a deal.
Stuttgart had expected their first bid to be rejected, according to BILD, and are now planning a second bid. They want to step up their game to try and convince Brighton to get the deal over the line, although doubts about whether they will be able to do so remain strong.
