Bruno Guimaraes’ long-term Newcastle future is under question once again – even after he led the club to League Cup glory against Liverpool.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the Magpies skipper, while Man City and Real Madrid have also reportedly expressed an interest.

Guimaraes’ current deal is set to run until June 2028 and included a £100million release clause which expired in June 2024.

The midfielder has expressed his love for Newcastle and the St James’ Park faithful and was visibly emotional at full-time after the League Cup final win.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed Guimaraes would be happy to stay on Tyneside, but admitted there will be one condition.

Guimaraes will pledge future if PIF invest more at Newcastle, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Guimaraes could stay if Newcastle owners PIF (Saudi Public Investment Fund) are able to get more money into the club.

The Magpies have struggled to invest in new talent in recent windows despite being widely dubbed the ‘richest club in world football’.

Wyness insisted Alexander Isak would also be happy to pledge his future in the event of increased investment.

He told Football Insider's Inside Track podcast: "I've seen Arsenal and Man City linked with Guimaraes.

"All of this chat was around before the cup final – and it's still too early to know where they will finish in the table.

"Guimaraes was very emotional after the final. He got the whole thing about what it meant to Newcastle.

"He's been at great pains to say that he won't force an exit, he loves the club.

"If the money PIF can put into the club materialises, I think he'd be open to signing – as would Isak.

"I think both would want to stay and go forward, it's just about whether this money can actually go into the club."

Newcastle set sights on winger signing

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed earlier this month (8 March) that Newcastle are interested in signing Como winger Assane Diao in the summer transfer window.

A new right-winger is now top of Eddie Howe's list of targets this summer as the Magpies look to upgrade on Jacob Murphy following the sale of Miguel Almiron.

Newcastle will prioritise the signing of a winger after missing out on deals in the mid-season window.
