Liverpool scored twice late on to win at Brentford and Steve McManaman believes the Reds had the best player on the entire pitch at the G-Tech.

Darwin Nunez was the man to get the headlines as his two goals in injury time ensured the Reds went seven clear of second ahead of Arsenal playing Aston Villa.

However, while Nunez was the man of the moment and was rightly praised by Virgil van Dijk, there were some other fine performances in Liverpool red.

And according to Steve McManaman, there was one Liverpool player in particular who shone.

Trent Alexander-Arnold told he was the best player ‘by far’ during Liverpool v Brentford

Speaking for Premier League Productions after the game, McManaman praised the performance of Liverpool in general and in doing so, picked out Trent Alexander-Arnold as the best player on the field.

“Injury time winners feel sweeter, and Darwin Nunez is never far from the headlines. Arne Slot deserves a lot of credit for his substitutions and changing the match,” McManaman said.

“They got the result they needed to apply the pressure on Arsenal. Trent Alexander-Arnold was by far the best player on the pitch today.”

What is the current situation with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract?

With McManaman praising Alexander-Arnold here, it just goes to show that the right-back is a key part of this Liverpool side and they need to keep him.

His contract problems are well-documented and with Real Madrid lurking, anything can happen.

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, it seems that Alexander-Arnold is ready to join Madrid and that despite being offered huge money to stay at Anfield, he fancies the challenge of playing abroad.

Furthermore, there is an acceptance from Liverpool that Trent is on his way, leaving the club with a big decision in January to either sell now, or let him walk for nothing in the summer.
