Callum Wilson sends 'big' Newcastle message after fans rip striker to shreds

Callum Wilson took to social media to celebrate as Newcastle beat West Ham 1-0 before facing Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Following back-to-back defeats, even being knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton, the Magpies got back to winning ways on Monday 10 March, just in time to face Arne Slot‘s side at Wembley.
Eddie Howe and his team have the chance to lift silverware on 16 March, reaching their second Carabao Cup final in three seasons, last time being pipped to the trophy by Man United.
Bruno Guimaraes scored the all-important goal for Newcastle to seal three points against the Hammers at the London Stadium, and while Wilson was only on the pitch for 10 minutes, he enjoyed the win, nonetheless.
Callum Wilson turns focus to Liverpool clash at Wembley
Taking to Instagram [11 March], Wilson wrote: “Good team performance last night. Momentum & focus to take into a big weekend for us,” with muscle and star emojis.
This comes just nine days after Newcastle fans tore Wilson to shreds following his tough cameo against Brighton, failing to offer anything in the final third as his team were knocked out of the FA Cup.
Eddie Howe ready to bring silverware to St James’ Park
Football Insider verdict
Guimaraes and Alexander Isak’s futures at Newcastle could be riding on how the Magpies finish the current campaign, in the Carabao Cup final and in the Premier League standings.
Many have suggested that without Champions League football next term, the chances of keeping their star players diminish significantly, and it is difficult to argue with that idea.
Premier League standings | Points |
4. Chelsea | 49 |
5. Man City | 47 |
6. Newcastle | 47 |
7. Brighton | 46 |
That is exactly why the three points at the London Stadium were so crucial, with Howe’s side moving within two points of the top-four spots in the Premier League table.
Chelsea, Man City, Brighton, Aston Villa and Bournemouth are all making that achievement much harder this season, with the European race even more exciting than ever before, but Howe is ready to go against all the odds.
Isak, Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali are all capable of leading the Magpies forward, and if they all stick together at St James’ Park, something special is starting to build.
