Cardiff manager Omer Riza has confirmed the club is trying to swiftly sign forward Ricky-Jade Jones.

While the Peterborough player is under contract until the end of the season, Cardiff are determinedly hoping to cut that short.

One undeniable asset that Jones would bring to Cardiff is his remarkable pace.

He is believed to be among the fastest players in world football as he can sprint 100m in a rapid 10.9 seconds.

With that level of speed, he would rank among the quickest players in the 2024/25 Premier League season if he was playing for a top-flight club.

The 22-year-old has reached a staggering top speed of 22.3mph in League One this season.

This impressive feat places him ahead of notable Premier League players like Gabriel Martinelli, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford.

Last season, Tottenham's Micky van de Ven clocked a top speed of 23.2mph during Spurs' thrilling 3-2 win over Brentford, and Jones is tantalisingly close behind.

Furthermore, Jones boasts an impressive tally of 35 goals and 11 assists in 175 appearances for Posh.

Speaking on the potential signing, Riza said: “There have been discussions regarding Ricky-Jade Jones, and we will see how that progresses.

“I can’t elaborate on deals or players coming in.

“At the moment, all we can say is that discussions are taking place; obstacles are in the way which we’ve spoken about previously, namely whether players want to come to our club or whether we can afford to pay for our club.

"Whether it’s right for us to bring those players in and whether they’ll be impactful, we have to make sure we get that right. But definitely, the process has begun for three or four players to come in.

“There’s a whole host of players we are looking at regarding pace in the top line, creativity, and impact.

"He is one of a list of players we’ve spoken about.

“The conversations are ongoing. The list is there. Discussions regarding players are there.

"Now it’s about waiting for the FA Cup to pass because some clubs are looking to bring players in, especially in the Premier League, so they are waiting to get players, which then allows you to talk to them about players."

Riza has observed a slight upward trend in Cardiff's results, yet the club still finds itself within the relegation zone, having drawn their last two matches and secured one victory.
