As Celtic and Benfica continue to negotiate for the permanent transfer of Paulo Bernardo, the Portuguese media today shares a little update on the situation.

Mais Futebol writes that the Scottish side, who had the player on loan last season, would like to pay around €5m to keep him.

The story makes it sound like that price is not a problem. Now what Celtic and Benfica are said to be discussing is the percentage that the Eagles will have in a future transfer.

The report claims it’s ‘certain’ that the Lisbon side will have at least a small share of that future move, and it does seem like the negotiations are going towards a happy ending.

Paulo Bernardo joined Celtic in the summer of 2023, and made 33 appearances for the Glasgow side, with four goals and three assists.

Celtic could have triggered a contract clause and signed him for €7.5m, but chose to enter negotiations with Benfica instead, looking for a better price.

With the Eagles having no big plans for the midfielder, it’s now a matter of sorting final details to get the transfer done.
