Champions League could block big Celtic exit as club target star in January

Stade Rennais are interested in Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi as they look to strengthen their attack in the January transfer window.
That's according to Ouest France, who report that the French side have targeted the Celtic forward this month.
They state that Rennais are 'urgently looking for reinforcement' in attack in this window. As a result, they are 'very interested' in Celtic's Furuhashi.
According to their information, discussions have taken place between the various parties about a move. There is a 'strong possibility' that the 29-year-old could move from Celtic Park.
Those discussions have been underway for some time, although L'Equipe argue that the French side are yet to vote unanimously on the idea. Jorge Sampaoli likes the Celtic man, but sports director Frederic Massara is unsure.
Furuhashi, who joined Celtic for €4m in 2021, was the top goal scorer in Scotland in 2023 with 23 goals and has won three league titles with the club. He's very much seen as the 'star striker' and there's a question whether Brendan Rodgers would want to let him go.
Indeed, Ouest France argue that with two more Champions League group stage matches this month, Celtic may be reluctant. Afterall, they cannot replace Furuhashi in the UEFA lists for these two matches.
It will all depend on Rennes, who need to definitively decide to target Furuhashi first. If they do, it will then be interesting to see what decision Celtic make.
