Chelsea and Bournemouth picked up a record-breaking 14 yellow cards between them in their Premier League clash on Saturday and it will cost them both a few quid.

The Blues won the match 1-0 thanks to a late Christopher Nkunku goal, but they were shown an incredible eight yellow cards in the process.

The home side picked up six bookings, with the 14 in total a Premier League record on a very busy day for referee Anthony Taylor.

That actually wasn’t even the full total of yellow cards shown as the coaching staff were also in hot water with the officials, including a looking for Blues boss Enzo Maresca.

The Daily Mail report that the multiple indiscretions will cost the sides, with a £25,000 fine incoming for both the Cherries and the Blues. The fines come for sides picking up six or more cards.

Maresca did not seem bothered by the number of cards flashed by the referee on Saturday night, telling Sky Sports: ‘It’s not a problem this amount of yellow cards. It is what it is.

‘I complained about a foul on Wesley Fofana which for me was quite clear but it can happen. Eight yellow cards probably because these sort of games are about duels and fight and this can happen.

‘Sometimes the game demands the way you have to behave.’

Iraola seemed to take a different view but refused to go into detail, though he did say he did not think it was an ‘aggressive or violent football match’.

The Cherries manager said: I will not talk about the referee. I have been talking and it is not working so I have decide now I will try the opposite and see what happens.’
