Chelsea 'character' Cole Palmer to star for Thomas Tuchel's England: 'I'm excited'

Cole Palmer has struggled for form at Chelsea of late, but he is still generating major optimism when it comes to England.
After moving to Stamford Bridge from Man City in the summer of 2023, the young attacker enjoyed an excellent debut campaign with the Blues.
Indeed, some were even tipping Palmer as a future Ballon d’Or winner on the back of his performances for Chelsea.
However, the 22-year-old has seen his form drop of late, failing to score or provide an assist in any of his last ten games for the club.
That has led to some Chelsea fans calling for manager Enzo Maresca to be sacked over his handling of Palmer.
England could provide respite for Cole Palmer
Injury meant Palmer was not involved as England beat Albania 2-0 in their first game with Thomas Tuchel as manager on Friday night (21 March).
In his absence, the performance of Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford on the wings has been criticised, and Palmer is one player who could potentially replace one of the duo.
Indeed, Carlton Cole is already relishing the prospect of seeing the Chelsea ace play under the new Three Lions boss, due to the way he does not let pressure get to him in big games.

While in a discussion on talkSPORT, it was noted that Palmer is among who is still to comeback into the side under Tuchel.
In response to that, former Chelsea, West Ham and England striker Cole said: “Yeah, Cole Palmer, I’m excited for him to work under Tuchel to be honest, I think he’ll be really really good.
“He’s got character, through his football, not as like he’s bothered, I like that, it becomes something else doesn’t it being that bothered.”
Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara then added: “When you’re that bothered, you could play against Brazil in the World Cup final and just be absolutely bothered, don’t care.”
Cole then reacted identifying such a trait as “character”, before O’Hara concluded: “I think you need that I think you’ve got to have something like that it’s kind of nonchalant.”
Chelsea ace can be key under Thomas Tuchel
Football Insider Verdict
Tuchel had of course left Chelsea some time before Palmer made his move to the club, but there is still reason to believe the pair can work well together for England.
The new Three Lions boss has spoken of the fact that England were scared to be knocked out during their run to final of Euro 2024 last summer, something he wants to change.
Palmer is a football who seems to have very little fear when it comes to his performances on the pitch, and he is ready to take a chance even in the very biggest of games.
The Chelsea man showed that with his equaliser against Spain in that final last summer, firing into the bottom corner from range when a chance did not look to be on.
It is the sort of moment that suggests he is the type of player that Tuchel is looking for as he attempts to turn England into World Cup winners next summer.
Indeed, with things not currently working out for Palmer at Stamford Bridge, being in such an environment with the national team could bring the best out of him to the benefit of Chelsea as well.
