'Chelsea could offer Frank Lampard extra players amid Rak-Sakyi Coventry talks'

Chelsea should be looking to make the most of Frank Lampard at Coventry after he made a January transfer window move on his former club.
The former Chelsea captain and manager was appointed by the Robins on 28 November but will be looking to make the most of his ties to his former club in the January transfer window.

Whilst his successes at managerial level have been limited, Lampard has shown himself to be very accomplished at developing young talent.
Frank Lampard has had major success with Chelsea talent
Six years ago, Lampard was in charge of a Derby County side looking to return to the Premier League.
It was the former West Ham man’s first job in management and he chose to bring in two young players from Chelsea, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori.
The duo both played a major role in firing Derby to the playoffs, where they beat Leeds in the semi-final before narrowly losing 2-1 against Aston Villa at Wembley.
Lampard was appointed Chelsea boss the following season in 2019, and was responsible for Chelsea’s most impressive integration of youth players to date.
Youth players had infamously struggled to break into the first-team at Chelsea, with Josh McEachran a famous example of a talented player who never really got a chance to prove himself.
Both Mount and Tomori were trusted by Lampard to be used in the first-team in his first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge, when Tammy Abraham, Billy Gilmour and Reece James all broke into the Chelsea first-team.
In the following seasons, Mount, now at Manchester United, was sold for £55million [Sky Sports], Tomori left for £24million to AC Milan [BBC Sport], Abraham was sold to Roma for £34million [BBC Sport] and Gilmour was sold to Brighton for £9million [Sky Sports].
Reece James is the only player who remains at the club, and is currently the Blues’ captain, the rest have all been sold for considerable fees and that profit from youth players is key to a Premier League’s compliance with profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
Coventry need to make the most of Frank Lampard links
Lampard has failed to impress in the early years of his managerial career, and that is a major factor as to why the Chelsea-legend is in charge of Coventry, and not a Premier League side, with his caretaker return after Graham Potter was sacked in 2023 extremely poor.
Both his spells in charge of Chelsea ended in disappointment and Lampard was also sacked by Everton after the Toffees fell into the relegation zone.
But he can point to huge success in making the most of the Cobham production line so Enzo Maresca’s administration should be delighted at the chance he could do the same with Rak-Sakyi.
The former England international has struggled to win over Coventry fans during the early part of his reign over the Robins, but his previous success at Derby by utilising his Chelsea links will likely have been a selling point to the board of his new club.
As shown by his time with the Rams, talented youngsters can be enough to propel a club up the Championship table and Chelsea have those in abundance.
With further loan spots open Lampard may chance his arm with a couple of further requested signings, and based on his history the Blues should be very open to considering.
