Leon Bailey took to social media to share an update with his followers as the Aston Villa is away with Jamaica, and received responses from Chelsea players.

The Reggae Boyz are set to face the British Virgin Islands and Guatemala over the next two weeks, with Steve McLaren‘s side battling the latter and the Dominican Republic for promotion and a better chance of qualifying.

With just one goal and two assists in 23 Premier League appearances, Unai Emery has not had the joy of seeing the winger at his best this season, often utilising him from the bench rather than starting him.

Marco Asensio seems to have stolen the spotlight at Villa Park, with Marcus Rashford now being tipped to sign for Villa permanently once the summer transfer window rolls around.

Bailey looks to be a shell of his former self, having notched 10 goals and nine assists in the league last term, but if he can prove himself while away on international duty, all could change back in Birmingham.

Taking to Instagram [20 March], Bailey shared images of Jamaica’s training sessions, alongside the caption: “National Duty!” with a Jamaica flag.

Nicolas Jackson and Omari Kellyman, who has been ruled out for the season at Chelsea, Ipswich’s Omari Hutchinson, and Villa teammate Ezri Konsa all liked the update from Kingstown in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Rashford has been a prime example at Villa that one simple change can revitalise a player’s career, and that might be exactly what Bailey needs to help him rediscover his prior form.

That will not be at the forefront of the manager’s mind right now, however, with silverware still a possibility at Villa Park, as well as Champions League glory and a Premier League top-four finish.

Unai Emery can still achieve a lot at Villa Park this season.

Emery will need his stars firing on all cylinders right up until the last final whistle, calling the likes of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Emi Martinez all to be at their very best.

The Spaniard is likely to immediately become a heroic figure in Birmingham if he can break the silverware drought this season, but if not, he will be backed to achieve more next term with a revamped squad.

The owners are under pressure to back Emery in the next transfer window, with supporters wanting both Asensio and Rashford signed on permanent deals, but that could be just the start of a summer of change.
