Chelsea 'under scrutiny after bending the rules' with £150m deal'

Everton's former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Chelsea have “bent the rules” by selling their women’s team to avoid breaches of financial rules.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Blues will be “answering a lot of questions” about the transaction, which drew huge criticism when it emerged in June last year.
Chelsea avoided punishment for the 2023-24 season under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) – which state top-flight clubs can lose a maximum of £105million over a rolling three-year period.
In an attempt to offset their major losses after big transfer spending, the Blues sold their women's team to parent company BlueCo in June last year.
The Guardian reported on 12 January that the £150million sale has not yet been assessed for fair market value by the Premier League.
Chelsea will be ‘answering a lot of questions’ about £150m women’s team sale, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "It was announced two days before the books closed back in June.
"I am surprised it hasn't been rubber-stamped. It's a first in terms of having to put a valuation on a women's team.
"I really believe the valuation was incredibly high. I have got questions about it.
"I wouldn't be surprised if there are a number of questions being asked of Chelsea, because it will be pretty hard to find a comparable sale.
"It's all been done on forecasted revenue.
"There will be a lot of questioning going on. I still find it very hard to believe that it's being allowed, because nothing really has changed with the women's side.
"It's bending the rules. I think Chelsea are answering a lot of questions at this time."
