Aston Villa face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final and the first leg will take place at Parc des Princes on April 9th.
Aston Villa star Emiliano Martínez is aware the treatment he will receive from PSG fans in Paris.
TyC Sports cover the comments made by the Argentina international on a few topics and this includes Aston Villa’s Champions League clash against the French club.
The 32-year-old was vital in helping his country beat France to win the 2022 World Cup. His antics, especially during the penalty shootout in the final, resulted in a countrywide dislike towards him in France.
Martínez will travel to Paris with the English club for the European competition and suggests Unai Emery’s side struggle more away from Villa Park.
“It’s going to be heated. I’ve already received messages and everything. We’re tough at home, but we struggle a bit more away from home. It’s a knockout, anything can happen,” he said.
The World Cup and Copa América winner will be under the microscope during his time in France next month. He was insulted throughout the UEFA Conference League match against Lille last season.
Martínez remains confident of handling it well and also believes the situation can end up benefiting Aston Villa.
“The game in France? The good thing is that my team will have less pressure because people will insult me. I have it completely under control. Against Lille, they blew my mind for 120 minutes, it’s normal,” Martínez explained.
