Real Madrid’s Arda Güler could be an attractive option for Aston Villa.
That’s according to Aston Villa director Monchi, and he mentioned this during a chat with Radio Marca.
Real Madrid took the 20-year-old from Fenerbahçe in July 2023, after overcoming several clubs for his signature.
The Aston Villa official claimed the attacking midfielder was on his agenda when he was in Turkey.
Güler spent two years with the Istanbul club’s youth system before making his way to the first team in 2021. His performances for Fenerbahçe had caught the attention of several clubs before Real Madrid won the battle in the end.
Monchi believes the Turkey international can be an option for the Premier League club, also because of his leadership skills.
“I know him well because he is a player that every sporting director has followed during his time in Turkey,” he said.
“He is a player who fulfilled a series of requirements and who could be attractive for Aston Villa because we were looking for that position. It’s not the same position as Marcos Asensio, but more or less we are looking for that profile between the lines that can play as a 10 and that can even play on the outside coming inside.
“To me he seems to be a player with very good technical conditions, and I also think he has personality, he shows it when he plays for the national team. There he takes on roles that are not associated with his age.”
Since joining the Champions League winners, Güler has scored nine goals and registered five assists from 43 games of which 30 of them are from this season.
Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t relied up on him regularly this year. This has led to transfer links, but Güler has played it down.
Meanwhile, Monchi spoke about the Unai Emery factor in helping Aston Villa with signings.
“Unai is a coach who has historically helped players grow. There are players like Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio who have grown since Unai arrived,” Monchi explained.
“Coming here improves the player, and that’s our main selling point, beyond offering a project that’s fighting for the top eight in the Champions League, that wants to continue growing, and that wants to continue playing in Europe.”
