Crystal Palace fans have been sent a message on social media after another confirmed transfer arrival in the January window.

19-year-old Romain Esse featured for Millwall in their 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship (4 January).

The Eagles have paid a fee of £12million (rising to £14.5million) for the England U20 international [The Standard], and he is their first signing of the January transfer window.

The sale of Esse marks the third deal that Millwall have completed this season, having already signed Aaron Connolly from Sunderland and Tristan Crama from Brentford.

Esse has been in good form for the Lions this season, scoring four goals in 25 games in the Championship.

Romain Esse deal done as Crystal Palace make a top-half push

Having lost only once in their past 10 Premier League games, Palace have put their poor-start to the season behind them.

The South London side had struggled after losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich in the summer, missing his on-the-ball creativity and ability to conjure magical moments from difficult positions.

Palace have proven themselves to be experts when it comes to recruitment from the Championship, having signed Olise from Reading and current-star Eberechi Eze from Queen’s Park Rangers.

The deal for Esse now looks very similar, Bournemouth had made a late attempt to sign the young winger, but Palace were able to get the deal over the line.

Esse posted a message to Palace fans on Instagram, saying: “New Beginnings. I am delighted to be here and can't wait to get to business for this amazing club and hopefully create memories of a lifetime for the fans. I'd like to thank everyone who played a part in making this happen and can't wait to see you CPFC fans, the atmosphere and lighting up the pitch, see you soon palace fans!! Rom.”

Esse will be unlikely to be playing in the game against West Ham on 18 January, having only just signed for the club, so the first outing that Eagles fans can hope to see their young star in will be against Brentford on 26 January.

In other news, Trevoh Chalobah’s return to Chelsea has complicated a transfer for Marc Guehi.
