Rangers’ search for a new permanent manager is ongoing behind the scenes as a number of potential candidates are being assessed by 49ers Enterprises.
After Philippe Clement’s departure last month, Barry Ferguson was chosen to lead the side for the rest of the season to give the board time to make a decision in the background.
His spell as interim manager has been a success so far, including a 3-2 win against Celtic at Parkhead and a Europa League victory over two legs against Fenerbahce.
Meanwhile, the likes of Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez and Steven Gerrard have been spoken about in connection with the role, but the process remains ongoing behind the scenes.
Now, former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told Football Insider that the 49ers will not rush into a decision and will take their time to find the right man.
This comes after their appointment of Daniel Farke at Leeds – a decision which took over two months following the 49ers’ purchase of the club.
49ers to make Rangers manager decision after Daniel Farke twist
This comes after industry insider Mick Brown told Football Insider on 25 February that the 49ers will play a big role for Rangers as they continue to weigh up their options.
The prospective new Rangers owners are keen to instill a system and style of play which begins with the appointment of the correct manager.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that a decision will not be rushed as they establish a long-term plan for the future of their investment in the Ibrox club.
“With the takeover there, we know things are done right,” he told Football Insider.
“You look at the money that has gone into Leeds United with the 49ers.
“Then you look at how long it took them to recruit Daniel Farke.
“It took nearly two months, maybe even more than two months to appoint Farke.
“They wanted to get the right man who fitted their system, their mould, their way of playing and the style of football they wanted.
“So I don’t think it’s a decision the Rangers board will necessarily rush into.”
Barry Ferguson could land permanent Ibrox job
The early stages of Ferguson’s interim spell at Rangers have brought back plenty of positivity which was sorely lacking during Clement’s tenure.
An Old Firm derby win against Celtic at Parkhead in front of the travelling Gers supporters has seen the boss receive plenty of plaudits and support from outside of the club.
As a result, Football Insider revealed on 17 March that Ferguson is a candidate for the Rangers job on a long-term basis and has put himself in a strong position.
The interim boss is believed to be interested in the full-time job and a strong end to the season would only serve to strengthen his case.
