Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez took to social media to celebrate after a thrilling 2-1 Champions League victory over Lille.
The Uruguayan international started the match just three days after scoring a heroic stoppage-time brace against Brentford on 18 January.
Arne Slot's side secured the win with Mohamed Salah opening the scoring. Lille equalised through Jonathan David, but Liverpool regained their lead just three minutes later with Harvey Elliott's decisive goal.
Although Nunez neither scored nor assisted in this match, he shared his joy on Instagram, posting a series of photos. One featured him alongside Salah, and others showed him celebrating the Egyptian's goal with Luis Diaz and Curtis Jones.
Teammate Dominik Szoboszlai also showed his support, commenting, "Vamonos (Let's go)".
With the victory the Reds secured the major positive step of qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League.
Liverpool could turn to Darwin Nunez to resolve striker issue
Although Nunez didn't score, he put in a solid performance during the match. He made three key passes, won four ground duels, and completed two accurate long balls, despite missing a big chance [Sofascore].
Manager Slot has shown limited faith in Nunez this season, giving him just seven league starts. The striker even appeared to frustrate the manager after missing a crucial opportunity against Brentford before scoring a match-winning brace.
However, the coach has previously stated that Nunez is "not only judged" solely on goals [BBC Sport], meaning the striker's underlying statistics could earn him a run of starts soon.
Football Insider Verdict
It's telling that Nunez was given the nod ahead of other preferred options such as Diaz and Diogo Jota, who have both played in the striker role this season.
The 25-year-old's playing time has been limited, with other options being prioritised. This has sparked rumours that Liverpool could be open to selling him.
However, Nunez seems to be in good spirits despite not scoring. As a player who thrives on momentum, a consistent run of games could be the key to building the confidence he and Liverpool need for the remainder of the season.
In other news, Liverpool could make an immediate move to sign this Bayern star.
