David Moyes has transformed fortunes at Everton since his January arrival – ensuring the club will play Premier League football for their stadium move next term.

The Scot, 61, returned to Goodison Park in place of Sean Dyche, who had run out of steam and had the Toffees sitting perilously close to the drop zone.

Moyes’ appointment was one of the first actions of The Friedkin Group’s new era at the club following their takeover late in 2024.

Attentions will now turn to their first summer transfer window, with Football Insider revealing on Monday (14 April) that funds will be made available to transform Everton back into a team competing for Europe.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed what he’s heard on the transfer front.

Everton told to ‘trust Moyes completely’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed he expects Moyes to be given a big role in recruitment despite his reputation for “dithering”.

The ex-West Ham boss has established himself as one of the top eyes for talent in Premier League management.

Wyness insisted Everton and their new ownership should “trust Moyes completely”.

He told Football Insider's Inside Track podcast: "Everyone is waiting for the Friedkin Group to make their show of intent.

"They've done a good job with the takeover, they've restabilised the finances.

"They've also been getting the recruitment team right, and now we need the resources in place for the summer.

"There's going to be two transfer windows, in effect. One before the 30 June PSR deadline, and one after – where Everton can spend some more money.

"Moyes will certainly say: 'Look, I've done a great job. You can trust me now going forward.'

"I've worked with Moyes, we had great success with the signings he made at Everton. He was known as Dithering Dave, always taking a long time to make his mind up.

"But he has a great eye for talent. They should trust him completely.

"Everton now need to show some signs of intent if we're going to be looking at the top ten and pushing forwards next season."

Moyes sets sights on Ferguson deal

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (18 April) that Moyes has told Everton he wants to sign striker Evan Ferguson from Brighton.

Everton could land Ferguson for a much cheaper fee than initially thought – with his value not increasing during a poor loan spell with West Ham.

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, 22, is also on Moyes' radar but it is believed Ferguson is his top choice.
