Moyes previously spent 11 years in charge of the club between 2002 and 2013.

During that period, Everton qualified for the Champions League and reached the final of the FA Cup.

Their former manager is currently out of work having left West Ham in the summer.

Meanwhile, Dyche was sacked on Thursday, a matter of hours before their FA Cup tie against Peterborough United, following a run of one win in 11 matches.

His exit comes with the Toffees 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.

Owners, The Friedkin Group, took the decision to change manager this week following consultations with club executives.

It was decided that parting ways with Dyche was the best approach despite their respect for him and the job he has done at Everton.

The former Burnley manager had been out of contract at the end of the campaign and indicated in a meeting with the owners he had taken the club as far as he could.

As well as Moyes, Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca is also interested in the role. Fonseca is also out of work having left AC Milan in December.

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate has admirers in The Friedkin Group but the ex-England manager is said to have reservations about taking a job mid-season.

Southgate reached back-to-back Euros finals and the semi-finals of the World Cup during six years leading the Three Lions.

However, he stepped down from the position following Euro 2024 last summer.

Jose Mourinho will not be the next Everton boss, though, having been sacked by The Friedkin Group as Roma manager last year.

It’s also understood no approach for Graham Potter was made before he accepted the offer to become West Ham boss.

No candidates have been formally approached yet following Dyche’s dismissal.

Club captain Seamus Coleman and under-18’s boss Leighton Baines will take charge of the clash against Peterborough.

Everton are next in Premier League action on Wednesday when Aston Villa visit Goodison Park.

The Toffees also confirmed that several members of Dyche’s team have also departed.

Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have all left Goodison Park following the decision to part ways with Dyche.

In a statement, the club said: “Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as senior men's first team manager with immediate effect.

“Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the club.
