David Raya sends message to Brentford fans after Arsenal victory
01/03/2025 01:34 PM
David Raya took to social media addressing both his former Brentford fans and Arsenal supporters following their 3-1 victory.
The goalkeeper helped the Gunners beat their London rivals 3-1 on Wednesday (1 January) as they cut the gap to the top of the table to six.
An early goal from Bryan Mbuemo caught Raya out on his near post which could've been costly but goals from Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli secured the win.
The Spaniard took to Instagram to send his former fans and his current ones a message in a post.
He said: "Big 3 points to start the year. Thank for all your support through out 2024. Let’s make better memories in 2025. Thanks for the reception I got at the Gtech tonight, good to see you all, All the best."
Arsenal are battling it out for another title race
Football Insider opinion
The crushing news of Bukayo Saka being sidelined for several months due to injury has posed a significant challenge for Mikel Arteta.
In his absence, others have risen to the occasion, including Ethan Nwaneri, who earned his first Premier League start.
An away trip to Brentford was always going to be a difficult test, especially as Thomas Frank's side have lost just once at home this season.
However, Arsenal's impressive away form from 2024 has carried into 2025. Despite this, they've struggled defensively, failing to keep an away clean sheet since September.
Raya nearly compounded the North London side’s difficulties in the first half when he mishandled a routine outside-the-box effort.
The ball slipped from his grasp, requiring a desperate claw off the goal line to prevent Brentford from taking a 2–0 lead.
Despite that nervy moment, Raya remains one of the league's top-performing goalkeepers, with seven clean sheets this season—second only to Mats Sels, who leads with eight.
If Arsenal are serious about mounting a title challenge, they will need to rediscover the defensive solidity that characterised their away performances last season and tighten up at the back.
