Arsenal’s Declan Rice reacts to Adam Wharton’s new social media message as speculation continues to swirl around the Crystal Palace star’s future.

Mick Brown told Football Insider on Tuesday (25 March) that Man City are leading the race for Wharton’s signature this summer, though he could come at a huge cost with his current deal expiring in 2029.

The 21-year-old has gained a lot of interest since his move from Blackburn Rovers, with Tottenham and Man United understood to be involved in the transfer race, but his development has been hindered by injuries.

Having been sidelined in October, he has just 10 Premier League starts to his name since returning to the pitch in February, but he did not look out of place during England Under-21s victory over Portugal.

Hayden Hackney, Ethan Nwaneri, Omari Hutchinson and Jaden Philogene all netted as Lee Carlsey’s side secured a 4-2 friendly win at The Hawthorns on Monday 24 March, with the midfielder playing the final 20 minutes.

Adam Wharton continues to impress amid Crystal Palace exit rumours

Taking to Instagram [25 March], Wharton wrote: “Always an honour. All eyes on Saturday now,” with side-eye and eagle emojis, referring to Palace’s FA Cup clash with Fulham.

Liking the post were Arsenal star Declan Rice, Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham, Newcastle’s Lewis Miley and Burnley star defender CJ Egan-Riley.

Oliver Glasner just getting started in new journey at Selhurst Park

Football Insider verdict

Just a few months ago, Oliver Glasner was under immense pressure at Palace, with supporters worried about the team being relegated from the Premier League following a tough start to the season.

Now, the Eagles are sitting comfortably in 12th position, just five points off the top half of the Premier League table and still in with a fighting chance of securing European football.

Jean-Philippe Mateta, who suffered a shock injury for Palace, Ismaila Sarr, and Eberechi Eze have been firing on all cylinders at Selhurst Park, and Marc Guehi and Dean Henderson remain rock-solid at the back.

Securing European football could help Palace to keep many of their star players this summer, and if Glasner is to continue building this project, exactly that is imperative at the end of the season.

Keeping Wharton would send a huge message to the rest of the league, especially given the number of top clubs vying for his signature, but Glasner needs to be backed by the owners if Palace are to improve.
