Denial of agreement to sell player to West Ham despite reports he's travelling for medical

Wednesday afternoon saw claims from the UK media stating West Ham United have agreed a deal to sign Ezechiel Banzuzi from OH Leuven.

The midfielder was said to be costing the Hammers a £10m transfer fee plus a further £3m in potential bonuses payments down the line.

It was even claimed the 19-year-old is set to fly to England for a West Ham medical within the coming 24 hours.

That has now been dismissed by a Belgian journalist.

Sacha Tavolieri reports OH Leuven ‘denies any agreement’ with West Ham for the youngster’s transfer. It’s also claimed the Jupiler League side haven’t yet received a written offer from the Premier League club.

Banzuzi has made 23 appearances for his club this season, and has a contract with them lasting until June 2026.

There’s every possibility an agent has got ahead of themselves, and equally that OH Leuven would rather deny any agreement until it’s totally complete, which they clearly don’t think is the case right now.

Such a fee from West Ham looks good for the Belgian side and perhaps it’s just a case of that being made in writing in addition to, presumably, it having been made verbally.
