Arsenal are in serious need of a new striker.

Arsenal have needed a striker for a long time, and they have been scouring the market for options for ages.

Ivan Toney was an Arsenal target last January, while Arsenal still like Alexander Isak.

Benjamin Sesko was a concrete Arsenal target in the summer, and Arsenal still like Sesko.

Arsenal remain keen on Sesko, but, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like a January move is on the cards.

Indeed, according to David Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast, Sesko is a long-term Arsenal target, but a deal this month would be difficult to do, so a summer switch may be more likely.

Arsenal more likely to sign Benjamin Sesko in summer

Ornstein shared what he knows about Sesko and Arsenal's interest in the player.

According to the journalist, Arsenal still like Sesko, but a deal would be difficult to do this month.

"Arsenal are active in the market, I am aware of them exploring situations. You would look to the loan market outside of England, the other big leagues on the continent. That's why there have been links to Dusan Vlahovic and Benjamin Sesko and so on. Sesko is a long-term target that Arsenal have looked at for a number of windows. I think it would be difficult to do it at this time of year, more a summer one," Ornstein said.

Benjamin Sesko stats this season

Arsenal may not be getting Sesko in January, but the RB Leipzig star may not have been a game-changing signing in any case.

Indeed, while Sesko has a lot of potential at the age of just 21, he's far from the finished product at the moment.

Sesko's stats this season aren't that impressive.

Sesko has been decent this term, but his numbers aren't even more impressive than Kai Havertz's stats during his time in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal aren't desperate for a striker of this calibre at the moment. Yes, they do need a new number nine, but they need someone who will hit the ground running and help them win the league rather than a project player who could be moulded over the next few years.

What Arsenal do this January remains to be seen, but it sounds as though Sesko won't be the man the Gunners go for.
