Manchester United were hammered by Tottenham this afternoon and former right-back Gary Neville is far from happy with what he’s seen from his old club.

Neville had to sit on co-comms and watch on as United collapsed against a Spurs side who looked in fine form.

Tottenham consistently peppered the United goal and but for some poor finishing and a decent performance from Andre Onana, the scoreline could have been even more.

Neville pointed out how James Maddison has effectively ran the game for Tottenham and that comment was correct, as United’s midfield wilted.

And assessing United further, Neville delivered a scathing message for his former club.

Gary Neville slams Manchester United players after Tottenham efforts

Speaking at full-time about his former club, Neville was furious with what he saw and branded the performance as ‘disgusting’.

“The pressure is going to get ramped up this week – it is going to be brutal. It has been a bad day for Ten Hag, really bad,” Neville said.

“It’s one of the worst performances I have seen under Ten Hag – and that is saying something. It is really bad.

“Brilliant for Tottenham, you have to say that, they were outstanding. The Man Utd fans boo the ref but not even half the story.

“The big story was that first half – it was not from nowhere – but they have chosen to put in their very worst performance. It was a disgusting performance in effort and quality and a lot of questions to answer from that group in the next week.”

Ten Hag on borrowed time

United find themselves in the same situation again with a manager who is effectively looking like he’s on borrowed time already.

Erik ten Hag is effectively a dead man walking at the club and has been for some time now. It very much feels just a matter of when, not if, they sack him.

The FA Cup win bided him some time but Ten Hag is under serious pressure now and performances like this one against Spurs do him no favours.

As Neville says, it’s a big week now for the United boss.
