"Don't want to lose him" – Director firm about player amid Sunderland transfer links

Sunderland are said to be interested in signing Ajax’s Jordan Henderson and bringing him back for an emotional return to the club.
These claims initially originated in the UK press and were then picked up by the Dutch media. Last week, Soccer News pointed out Sunderland are the midfielder’s ‘old love’.
Henderson is a product of Sunderland’s academy, where he spent a decade between 1998 and 2008. He made his way into the Black Cats’ first team in 2008 and spent three years there before moving to Liverpool.
The 34-year-old spent more than a decade at Anfield and left them for Saudi Arabia side Al-Ettifaq in July 2023. Ajax brought him back to Europe six months later and offered him a deal until 2026.
According to the Eredivisie side’s technical director Alex Kroes, his side have no plans to let Henderson leave amid claims of Sunderland’s interest. His comments are relayed by Algemeen Dagblad.
The former Reds star has made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Dutch club this season. He has captained them in majority of their games. The director has responded to the rumours.
“I am extremely satisfied with Jordan as captain, both on and off the pitch. So, we don’t want to lose him. We assume he will help us continue the further development we are currently going through as a club and a team,” he said.
Last week, Henderson also talked about the possibility of finishing his career at Ajax.
