Harry Kane has sent a heartfelt message on social media after one of his team-mates picked up a season-ending injury.
Kane returns to Bayern Munich’s ranks following a productive international break with England, scoring his 70th and 71st goals for England in Thomas Tuchel’s first two games in charge of the Three Lions.
Reuniting with his former Bayern boss after Tuchel’s departure from the Allianz Arena last summer, Kane remaining England’s star player and biggest guarantee of goals, a role he’s replicated in the Bundesliga.
A potential reunion with the Premier League is also on the cards for Kane, with champions-in-waiting Liverpool keen on signing the 31-year-old this summer in preparation for a significant squad overhaul.
Tottenham Hotspur are hopeful they’ll get first refusal if Kane opts for a return to British shores, but the England captain’s major focus will now be on Bayern’s run-in to the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Harry Kane sends message after Alphonso Davies injury
Kane came through the international break unscathed despite putting two full 90-minute performances back-to-back for England against Albania and Latvia, but one of his Bayern team-mates wasn’t so lucky.
Alphonso Davies, playing for Canada against the USA in their CONCACAF Nations League A Bronze final, was forced off with a knee injury after just 12 minutes, and that injuey has seen him rupture his ACL.
Such an injury ends Davies’ season on the spot and will rule him out for at least six months, and Kane immediately took to Instagram to wish the 24-year-old well ahead of his recovery process beginning.
Posting on his Instagram story (26 March), Kane said: “We’re all behind you Alphonso Davies – no doubt you’ll come back from this injury stronger than ever.”
Kane may have played his last game with Alphonso Davies
With six months being a very long time in football, the makeup of Bayern’s squad could be very different indeed by the time the Canadian makes his return to the first-team setup around September-time.
Not only are the Bavarians keen on signing another Premier League legend – from Liverpool no less – in the form of Virgil van Dijk, they could also have sold Kane back to an English side before Davies returns.
Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United are also in the hunt to launch a bid for England’s top scorer, and with Kane seemingly having his pick of Premier League giants this summer, staying at Bayern looks increasingly unlikely.
