Enzo Fernandez sends message to Chelsea teammates after pre-Everton development
Today at 02:30 AM
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has taken to social media to support his teammates after their 5-1 Europa Conference League win over Shamrock Rovers on Thursday (December 19).
The 23-year-old wasn’t included in the squad as Chelsea secured qualification to the next round with six wins from six games in the new league phase.
Fernandez was instead rested as Enzo Maresca turned one eye to their Premier League trip to Goodison Park on Sunday (December 22).
Young striker Marc Guiu opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before the visitors scored a surprise equaliser just three minutes later.
Guiu then bagged his second before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall made it 3-1 with his second goal of the season, both of which have come in the Conference League.
The Spaniard then rounded off his first senior hat-trick just before half-time, with Marc Cucurella scoring his second goal in as many games just after the break.
Enzo Fernandez starting to show why Chelsea paid big money to secure his signature
The World Cup winner has equaled his Chelsea goal contribution tally from the entirety of last season—seven goals and three assists in 40 appearances—in just his last seven games across all competitions, with three goals and seven assists.
Fernandez has been a key player for Maresca so far this season, starting 17 of his 22 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals, and providing eight assists in 1362 minutes of action.
He may not have featured in the win over Shamrock Rovers, but he supported his teammates from afar, taking to Instagram to send them a message.
Chelsea currently sit second in the league with ten wins, four draws, and two defeats from their 16 games.
A win over Everton for Maresca’s side would see them leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the Premier League, at least temporarily, with the current leaders due to face Tottenham in the late kick-off on Sunday.
