Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has taken to social media to send a message to Thiago Silva after the Brazilian visited their Cobham training ground.
The 40-year-old defender departed the West London club at the end of last season to rejoin Fluminense, following Chelsea’s decision not to extend his contract after a four-year spell at the club.
Fernandez, 23, has been instrumental to Chelsea’s resurgence this campaign, starting 15 of his 20 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals, and providing eight assists in 1362 minutes of action.
The central midfielder is in the form of his life under new manager Enzo Maresca with ten of his goal contributions coming in his last six games both domestically and on the continent.
Enzo Fernandez key for Chelsea as race for the Premier League title heats up
Chelsea’s 2-1 win over West London rivals Brentford on Sunday (December 15), in which Fernandez provided the assist for Nicolas Jackson’s 80th-minute goal, takes them within two points of league leaders Liverpool.
Maresca has overseen a remarkable turnaround at Chelsea, propelling the West London club ten places higher in the table compared to their standing at this stage last season under Mauricio Pochettino.
Silva visited his old club on Tuesday (December 17) with Fernandez taking to Instagram to share an image of the two, captioning the post: “Veijito,” meaning ‘old man’ in English.
Chelsea face Irish club Shamrock Rovers in their Europa Conference League on Thursday (December 19) as they aim to keep their 100 per cent record in the competition intact.
Attention will then return to the Premier League as Maresca’s side travel to face Sean Dyche’s Everton on Sunday (December 22).
