This season, he has taken on the responsibility of being Chelsea's captain with Reece James’ continued injuries and has been a vital presence in the team, despite the club’s overall inconsistency.

Pressure mounts on Enzo Maresca as Chelsea fight for Champions League spot
Despite Fernandez's individual progress, many Chelsea supporters have criticised manager Enzo Maresca, whose decisions have come under increasing scrutiny this season.
Once seen as title contenders, the Blues now find themselves battling for a top-four finish in the Premier League, with Manchester City, Newcastle, and Aston Villa all in the mix for Champions League spots.
Chelsea fans have questioned some of Maresca's choices, particularly his continued backing of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez while Djordje Petrovic flourishes on loan in France.
Maresca’s former player, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, has also come under fire for failing to establish himself in midfield, while Fernandez continues to deliver on the pitch.
For now, the focus shifts to the upcoming derby against Tottenham, where Chelsea will face significant pressure to secure a victory in their quest for a Champions League spot.
