Arsenal drew 2-2 with Liverpool this week as they dropped more points but Troy Deeney has still found room for one Gunner in his team of the week.

Arsenal’s attack was not quite firing on all cylinders in the draw with Liverpool and they also lost Gabriel to injury to add to their woes.

Still, the first 45 minutes from Arsenal was very good and on another day, they could and probably should have scored more goals.

For Arsenal, keeping Liverpool at bay with a depleted defence can be seen as an achievement. Ben White moved to centre-back, while Jakub Kiwior came on and did well and Thomas Partey filled in at right-back again.

And according to former Premier League forward Troy Deeney, Partey did enough to show his worth.

Thomas Partey gets team of the week selection after Arsenal v Liverpool

Picking his team of the week for the BBC, former Watford striker Deeney went with just the single Arsenal player in his XI, and it was somewhat a surprise who he picked.

“I’m having Thomas Partey at right-wing back. He is the guy who is probably one of the Arsenal players they are looking to move on from in the summer, but he steps in and every time they ask him to play right-back he does a good job, doesn’t let the team down,” Deeney said.

“He is the type of person you’d be really grateful for in your team.”

Partey faces uncertain Arsenal future

There is no doubt that Thomas Partey is a valuable player for Arsenal but with the likes of Rice, Merino and Odegaard, as well as Jorginho, occupying the middle of the park, his chances in his favoured position are limited.

As Deeney says here though, Partey is a reliable player and filling in as a full-back has shown another string to his bow.

With Barcelona said to be keen on Partey and Arsenal having looked at the likes of Joao Neves in the past if he does leave, it’s going to be an interesting next six months or so for Partey.

For now, Partey is contributing and as Deeney says, he didn’t let the team down this weekend when needed.
