Liverpool fans were bound to be disappointed when the club's attempts to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad were unsuccessful this summer.

Arne Slot wanted a new number six to inspire his Liverpool project, but Richard Huges wasn't able to bring his first-choice Spaniard to Anfield.

That being said, Zubimendi's decision has done wonders for Ryan Gravenberch's Liverpool career who is now going from strength to strength at the heart of Slot's midfield.

The Dutchman's consistency has been remarkable, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Liverpool have ended their plans to add to their midfield.

And with that in mind, TBR Football understands that Liverpool scouts were in attendance in Germany to watch Atalanta's 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

Liverpool target Ederson has decided on Premier League switch

Liverpool, alongside a host of other Premier League clubs, were present in Schalke to see both Ederson and Ademola Lookman star in the Italian side's impressive victory.

Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United also had representatives in Germany.

And although Ederson will have impressed, it was the performance of former Everton winger Lookman which will have really stood out to the scouts in attendance, producing another stand-out performance.

On his part, Ederson was linked with Liverpool a lot this summer, and TBR now understands that the midfielder is ready to leave Atalanta in 2025.

The Brazilian has decided that a move to England is his preference, which will be welcome news for more than one Premier League club.

Ederson could be Liverpool’s Martin Zubimendi alternative

In the summer, Ederson was thought to be valued at around £50m, a 25-year-old who now has two caps for his national team.

The Brazilian is essentially capable of playing in all midfield roles, explaining why he could be so appealing for Slot.

Liverpool have retained their interest in Ederson since the summer and will continue to monitor the midfielder.

That being said, a few English clubs who weren't in attendance on Wednesday, the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa, are also fond of Ederson.

Evidently, the midfielder could be subject to a fair amount of interest in both January and the summer, especially if he makes his preference to come to the Premier League clear.

From the outside it's fairly obvious to see how Ederson would improve Liverpool's midfield, and it now remains to be seen whether the club will make a move.
