It's been quite the week for Rodri at Manchester City.

The midfielder joins a list of historic names such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as he writes his name in the pantheon of footballing greats.

Now that the dust has settled on Rodri's Ballon d'Or win, it's back to business as the Premier League champion works on his recovery.
Alongside his recovery, Rodri also has a contract situation at Manchester City that needs resolving, and there may be some positive movement on that front before too long.
Rodri is ready to sign a new contract
TBR Football understands that Rodri has indicated to Manchester City that he is ready to commit his long-term future to the club.
The £63m man, who won’t playing again until next season due to the knee injury he suffered against Arsenal in September, is ready to pen a new deal.
Real Madrid have recently been linked with Rodri.
TBR Football has previously revealed that City were ready to make Rodri the club’s highest-paid player as a reward for his progress in recent seasons.
The 28-year-old is out of contract in 2027 and City have already held initial talks with his representatives in recent months with a view to tying him down to a new deal before the end of this season.
Now TBR Football understands that Rodri’s and his team have indicated to City that they are ready to sign a new deal with the club – which comes despite the fact there is still no word about Pep Guardiola’s long-term future.
City are hopeful that Guardiola will sign another deal, indeed their dream scenario is to welcome new deals for Rodri and Guardiola in the not too distant future.
Which other contracts do Manchester City need to address
Rodri looks set to sign a new contract at City in the near future, but there are a few other contract situations that City need to address in the coming weeks and months.
Indeed, there are a number of key players at City who are out of contract in the short-term.
Manchester City out-of-contract players | Contract expiry date |
Kevin De Bruyne | 2025 |
Ilkay Gundogan | 2025 |
Scott Carson | 2025 |
Bernardo Silva | 2026 |
John Stones | 2026 |
Ederson | 2026 |
Kyle Walker | 2026 |
James McAtee | 2026 |
Stefan Ortega | 2026 |
Kevin De Bruyne has had his injury problems, but he remains one of City's most talented players.
De Bruyne is being courted by San Diego FC, so a move to MLS could be on the cards soon.
Meanwhile, Ilkay Gundogan has fit back into this side as if he'd never been away, so City would be wise to offer him an extension.
Scott Carson is apparently a great figure in the dressing room, so City may also want to give him a new deal.
Heading into 2026, City also need to deal with a number of key players, and decisions may have to be made in the summer in terms of selling these players.
City may be sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League at the moment, but there is change afoot at the Etihad in the coming years.
