Arsenal had a lot of issues to contend with ahead of their 1-0 win in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Martin Odegaard picked up an injury during the international break with Norway whilst Declan Rice was handed a one-game suspension after his red card against Brighton.

It was suggested that Arsenal may have to dip into the free agent market to bring in a midfielder ahead of the clash and now we can exclusively reveal that they were offered the chance to sign Adrien Rabiot.

Arsenal offered Adrien Rabiot

TBR Football understands Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Aston Villa were approached by Adrien Rabiot’s representatives over the weekend before talks progressed with Marseille.

Rabiot’s team reached out to the Premier League clubs they knew had room and could also be tempted at making a late offer, but none were forthcoming from England.

The Frenchman was told that Marseille wanted a decision by Monday and after talks including with Roberto De Zerbi, a deal was finalised late on Sunday.

We are told the talks with De Zerbi played a huge part as Marseille think they can mount a serious challenge in Ligue 1 this season with the addition of Rabiot.

Arsenal should sign a Martin Odegaard backup

Arsenal are a little light in the attacking midfield role as Ethan Nwaneri, the 17-year-old, is the only other player of a similar profile to Odegaard.

So, they should consider bringing in a playmaker in the Janaury transfer window, along with a centre-forward.

Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and should be top of their shortlist.
