Burnley are in advanced talks to sign Peru international right-back Oliver Sonne for £2.5million, sources have told Football Insider.
The Clarets have held a long-term interest in the 24-year-old Silkeborg defender.
Both Burnley and Coventry had bids turned down by the Danish club in the summer, but Scott Parker’s side have now rekindled their interest in Sonne.
The clubs are getting close to agreeing terms on a deal worth in excess of €3million (£2.5million).
Sonne has decided to represent Peru internationally despite being born in Denmark and has racked up 10 caps for the South American nation.
He has made 22 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2024-25 campaign for Silkeborg, notching four goals and four assists.
The 24-year-old gained experience in Europe with the Danish side earlier this season as they were eliminated from Europa League and Uefa Conference League qualifying.
Burnley close to agreeing £2.5m deal for long-term target Sonne
Sonne joined Silkeborg from second division side HB Köge in 2021 and has gone on to make 116 appearances for the Superliga outfit.
He has proved a versatile option for the club, playing on both sides of the defence and in central midfield.
The Peru star has also lined up in a variety of midfield roles on the international stage as his nation vie for World Cup qualification.
Burnley sit third in the Championship and are currently lining up with Wales international defender Connor Roberts at right-back.
Bashir Humphreys and Shurandy Sambo are among the back-up options for Parker at Turf Moor.
