Exclusive: Charlton, Lincoln & Mansfield in race to sign Sam Clucas

Charlton Athletic, Lincoln and Mansfield are eyeing January moves for Oldham midfielder Sam Clucas, sources have told Football Insider.
Clucas could be available on a free transfer this month due to a clause in his contract at Oldham and the news has alerted the League One trio.
The 34-year-old joined Oldham at the end of October on a free transfer and has impressed in his seven appearances to date for the National League hopefuls.
The former Hull, Swansea, and Stoke man boasts a wealth of experience having made over 500 first-team appearances in his career to date across various leagues.
The midfielder has played 41 times in League One, scoring nine goals and providing three assists, but has played as high of a standard as the Premier League.
Clucas is under contract at Oldham until the end of this season, but the club could be forced to let him go due to his contract.
Charlton will face competition to sign Sam Clucas
A move during the January transfer window would allow the experienced midfielder to jump up two divisions in the football pyramid.
Clucas' wealth of experience would allow him to slot straight into the starting lineup at any of the three clubs trying to sign him, providing a solid option to the manager who wins the race to his signature.
All three teams are currently pushing to earn a playoff position this season, with Mansfield currently sat the highest out of the three options in ninth.
Charlton currently occupy 11th while Lincoln sit just one position and two points below them in 12th.
Clucas is currently part of a promotion campaign himself at Oldham, with the club currently fifth in the National League.
