Enzo Maresca has the backing of the Chelsea board despite unrest in the fanbase and growing calls for the manager to be sacked, sources have told Football Insider.

Maresca, 45, didn’t celebrate with the Blues fans after their 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday (20 April) following weeks of criticism levelled at the Italian.

Sources say Chelsea‘s ambitious board see the ex-Leicester boss as the man to take the club forward despite patchy results in recent weeks.

It is believed chairman Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital chiefs have recognised they cannot keep chopping and changing in the dugout.

Qualification for the Champions League and victory in the Uefa Conference League will be enough for Maresca to be sure of continuing at Stamford Bridge into the 2025-26 campaign.

Chelsea currently sit inside the top five after their late show against Fulham but could be relegated to sixth if Nottingham Forest get a result against Tottenham on Monday (21 April).

The Blues face a two-leg semi-final against Swedish side Djurgarden in the Conference League to set up a potential final against Fiorentina or Real Betis.

Maresca left Leicester to join Chelsea last summer (2024) and signed a contract running until June 2029.

He has faced criticism from fans for his possession-heavy style and failure to get the best out of players like Cole Palmer.

Bayern Munich push to sign Chelsea top target

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (14 April) that Bayern Munich are pushing hard to agree a summer deal for Liverpool and Chelsea target Dean Huijsen.

Huijsen will be available via a £50million release clause in the summer transfer window and Bournemouth are powerless to avoid losing him.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle – among others – are keen to land the Spain international this summer.
