Crystal Palace will turn away any approaches for Tyrick Mitchell amid interest from Arsenal, sources have told Football Insider.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 30 December that the Eagles are concerned about interest in the left-back from the likes of Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.
Despite reports claiming Mitchell’s contract will expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, Crystal Palace sources have confirmed to Football Insider that his deal is actually set to run until 2027.
As a result, the Eagles remain in a strong position over the 25-year-old’s future and have no desire to see him leave in the upcoming transfer windows.
The left-back has played a key role under Oliver Glasner, having started all of Palace’s games across all competitions so far this season.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in November that the Eagles are plotting to sign a new left-wing-back in January amid concerns about a lack of depth.
Despite constant rumours about incoming options in his position, Mitchell is still highly thought of at Palace after coming through their academy and will not be sold this month.
Crystal Palace stance on Tyrick Mitchell sale revealed
If Palace are successful in their attempts to sign a new wing-back, it will be as competition for Mitchell as they want to add further depth to their squad.
Glasner has also spoken about bringing in a different profile to the England international given his more defensive style and how that fits in with Palace’s system which relies heavily on wing-backs.
After the success of Daniel Munoz on the right-hand side, there is a growing feeling that a more attack-minded left-wing-back will be their top target.
In the Eagles’ last Premier League game, a 1-1 draw with Chelsea, 33-year-old Nathaniel Clyne and 18-year-old Caleb Kporha were the only backup wing-back options.
As a result, the recruitment team at Selhurst Park has been working behind the scenes to add further quality to their side and allow for more rotation.
This, however, is not expected to impact Mitchell’s position, and Palace will not entertain offers for his signature as he remains a key part of Glasner’s plans for the future.
